My personal favorite was one of the final stories about a lad named Declan, whose grandfather was an African-American from Harlem who hooked up with his grandmother from Dublin, on one miserable night in Glasgow during World War II. The darker stories are the best ones. I didn't know this was an issue in Ireland. The best, most elegant suit Larry had ever been close to.

The first one I read was "A Star Called Henry" and since then I have read all his others,and look for each new thee he writes. It was during the s that Ireland started booming. Do these reversals of perception generally come as a surprise? Maybe it's because I love Ireland, and maybe it's because no one has ever been able to capture it the way Doyle does, but I don't think you need to have ever even been to Ireland to be able ths relate to these stories, and that's precisely what makes it so good.
This book was very enjoyable and told the story of deportees in Ireland from a number of different perspectives. Pleasant if occasionally scattershot. The final story, "I Understand," is about a man who yhe Africa, where he was forced to be a child soldier.
This time, he's putting together a new depotrees, with assorted imports from Romania, New York and Nigeria, plus a couple of Dubliners.
